Days Like This
By Steve Baba
i'm sorry for all
the things we should have done
when you were alive
that walk on the beach
when the green flash welcomed us
stars glittering on the water
a kiss before you left
when i saw you go back
to your arctic sea
cheeks warmed by that
punched through sun
from lamb and shepherd clouds
down down
the burned out streets
waiting for a rained out bus
a single meal
of salad and water
when you said you were fat
i look to the crowded streets
and wonder if i will ever see
that crooked smile
i still try to remember
the cold spots in the bed
that you would take for me
i hope you are happy
and not suffering from lunchtime insomnia
when the day dreams didn't come
until then
wait and wait and wait
this heart still belongs to you
