For A Moment
By Stacy Maddox
My love has already let go, setting you free
All that is asked in return is the same for me
The pain to follow will be too much to bear
If the burden is left alone, never to share
Twisted strands lay in a pile at my feet
Snapped and broken in bitter defeat
They fell from my hands, one at a time
Slipping through my fingers, no longer mine
It tears me to pieces to clearly see it true
To have validation for what we always knew
Our hearts cried out, we held on tight
If only for a moment, bathed in the light
Our eyes will meet in passing again some day
Years from now, not knowing what else to say
Walking past each other, our sleeves will brush
Those old feelings will come back in a sudden rush.
