You Want To Leave and I Know Why
By Wade Thiel
It isn’t because
you cheated
or I cheated
or I beat you
or bad sex
or fights
It’s because we
don’t fit together anymore
you’ve grown
different than I
We’re like gears
in some kind of
love machine
that used to line up
but don’t anymore.
Instead of working together
to create love
we grind against one another
and create something else that
we pretend is love
We pretend
that it’s the same as it was
but, since we started to grind
we’ve been creating
knockoff love, not real love.
From far away it looks right,
even expensive and desirable,
but up close its easy to see
that it is a cheap imitation of love.
The longer we create this fake love
the more obvious it becomes
that this love is not
real or useful,
or even worth having.
We need to be
retooled, refitted and reapplied
so we can recreate
real love.
