TO HURT
By Stacy Maddox
You don't know it yet
But I'm finally letting go
Packing all of your things
In big boxes and bags
Your shirts smell of you
When I pull them off hangers
The cotton is smooth to the touch
I see you in them, in memories
This time I'm stronger
But the pain cuts deeper
You're in my broken heart
I don't want you here anymore
Sadness follows me everywhere
Beckoning and mocking me back
I study your picture closely
Before laying it in cardboard
But I hesitate for a moment
Questioning myself one last time
I think there is no other choice
Because this hurt will never heal.
