Wedding Sonnet
By Joann Grisetti

The heavily seductive scent
of ligustrum in bloom
fills the lightly salted air of Sea Island
this warm May evening.

You say your vows in front
of old colored glass, the light
held close by wooden boards
so as to not escape our notice.

A grey sea ebbs, followed by
a flock of brown pelicans
just off the patio sand
and descending dunes.

Musical notes waft out to sea
across shallow channels
then on towards Europe,
pulling with them ghosts
of all our pasts
and two connected futures.
