Morning
By Michael Plesset
Too early in the day for feeling energy
he walked the still foggy beach alone
with sounds of waves and birds.
He’d said I’ll call tomorrow,
it seems different now, in early morning
will she still be pretty, charming
without the gentle light and perfume.
To hear the wind and water alone
was good, and not to have to think of things to say.
Walking further, away from everything
he thought of her again, but suddenly
there she was, sitting on a rock.
He sat next to her, and said
let’s not talk, not say anything
they sat together a long time.
When the tide came slowly in
and washed cold around their feet,
they got up and walked back
hand in hand.
