Carried
By Christover Mickles

She carried his lifeless corpse for such a long time. She carried him away, toward the dawn, the fruited plain. She carried him to the flowers, set him among the holy lights, where souls find their purposes, and as she shed her tears for his losses, he rose up beneath them, blossomed back to life, infused with divine light, rebuit, skin golden and glowing. Tired, so tired, she lay down among the flowers to rest, and echoing her sacrifice of love, he lifted her, carried her resting, smiling form to even richer fields, places where her own light could shine strong, bright, brilliant and free. Her smiles, always radiant, now shined with a new light, her skin also shading to golden, her eyes alive in a way he had never seen before. So much life in her, in him, so full and powerful and brilliant, outshining the sun, the moon, the stars, more beautiful than all of the flowers, more delicious than the ripest of fruits.

Now, they dance. The time of carrying is behind them, and every journey is taken hand-in-hand.
