Proposal
By Erika Resultay
With delicate roses clenched in his hands
He nervously awaits her at the porch
He’s called her up prior with tricky plans
She expects only a familiar friend
she’s in no rush to answer the knock
His heart is a crescendoing cadence
As her footsteps approach behind the door
He knows that he’s undeserving of
The mature and kind person that she is
But still hopes that with a yearning desire
She’ll accept him for this event as well.
The door opens; she notices his clothes—
Too prim for hanging out—she gets the clue.
He looks in her eyes and builds the courage,
“May, will you walk down the aisle with me?”
