First Love
By Joshua Higgins
I find myself lost in her dark brown eyes.
Her flowing light brown hair reels me in.
Her subdued smile creates only a disguise.
Something else lies beneath that pale white skin.
We used to meet awkwardly in the hall.
But in her presence I now find comfort.
I allowed her to see inside my walls.
With her in my life I cannot be hurt.
But time passed; she questioned my devotion.
Enraged, I felt like my heart broke in two.
From this emerged even more emotion.
But in the end, I learned more about you.
A journey together, we both endured.
My love for you is even more assured.
