Betcha Don't Know
By Annie Kim

The wind was blowing on one chilly morning as I waited at the bus stop staring at my watch. In the next moment a blur of blue flashed by me as I heard a steady rhythm of sharp stiletto heels balancing on concrete. From my peripheral vision she twirled around and stood in place beside me, waiting patiently for the bus to arrive. As I wondered about this woman, the breeze took the perfume from her neck and flew past my nostrils. It came for a moment and then it was gone. It was the perfect amount of temptation; it left me longing for more. Just then it came again, this time whispering in my ears, desire me. At this point, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind- she was my world. I didn’t even know her name, but suddenly she was all I desired more than anything else. I gathered my courage and turned around to face her.

The next series of events happened all too fast. As I opened my mouth to speak, a black car screeched in front of us to park and muted my hesitant “Hello.” The windows rolled down and a man motioned her to hurry inside. She quickly jumped to gather her belongings and walked inside. The car drove away at lightning speed. And just like that, she was gone. I knew that those precious seconds where I was be able to greet her was gone forever. I had missed my one and only chance. How it feels for something you dearly love to be taken away in an instant? I bet you don’t know.
