Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop
By Nicole Mormann
I know you wanted to see my face again
When you sat down in that café tonight
Sipping black tea under faded light
Admit it to me and I’ll admit it to you
Truth is I wanted to see your face again
I had to see you too
I had a feeling you would be there
But somehow I was surprised
When we met each other’s eyes
And you turned your gaze to the floor
Through you knew I would be there
In our favorite coffee store
And when I left, you didn’t say anything
Like “hi, hello, goodbye”
Nothing…why’d you even try?
Coming back to this place where we first met
And letting me leave without saying anything
Just watching in regret
It seems so stupid, I simply don’t understand
How after all that we’ve been through
You still can’t talk to me and I to you
So we go where we know the other will be
Even though its stupid and I can’t understand (you)
You can’t understand me
And though I walked back, wondering, thinking on this
A part of me was happy
I know this sounds kind of sappy
But I’m glad I saw you, it was actually quite nice
And when walking back, I thought of you
And hoped I’d see you twice
